...yet another tale of crippling drug addiction, which seems to be the main theme of many other books written by musicians, such as Mötley Crüe's "The Dirt Ozzy's 'I Am Ozzy' and Dave Mustaine's 'Mustaine' (read my review here). Wylde admittedly$ used to drink$ more alcohol than should be humanly possible, but he never got hooked on anything else. While there are plenty of stories here about Wylde's partying lifestyle, the book is only part memoir, There are$ a few fleeting mentions to his teenage years and how he got started in the industry and everything since, but most of the pages of this tome describe his (and by extension his band's) life philosophy, as well as advice for anyone who wants to make a living playing in a band. Once you get used to Wylde's writing style – his self-deprecating toilet humor is very much in the same vein as Howard Stern's – you will find that scattered amongst all the rips on himself, co-author Hendrikx, BLS bassist John "JD" DeServio, etc.,$ are genuine, hard-earned pearls of wisdom that should serve as words for anybody to live by. For example, regarding failure, Wylde says the following: "Nobody can make you fail; they can create more obstacles and force you to have to be more resourceful, but that just means you have to keep working it. Bottom line is that if you fail at something, if you get knocked down, then you gotta get the f**k back up and any desire for vengeance you feel has to be channeled through yourself into productive energy." Jack Canfield couldn’t have said it any better."
